How far off Newcastle United's £45m Anthony Elanga bid is from Nottingham Forest's valuation

· 24 June 2025, 19:30

**Newcastle United have reportedly had an initial £45 million bid for Anthony Elanga rejected by Nottingham Forest today.**

The story, [which originated from The Athletic](https://nufcfeed.com/newcastle-united-table-45m-bid-for-premier-league-star-as-summer-business-plans-ramp-up-1398986), has now swept around all of the top sports outlets and is being reported as fact that the Magpies' bid was rejected by Nottingham Forest without a counter.

Newcastle have pivoted to the Sweden international after hearing Bryan Mbeumo's outrageous wage demands.

After having a £50 million bid rejected for Elanga on deadline day last summer, Newcastle appear to be testing the waters again this year with a lower bid for the 23-year-old.

Newcastle needs to find another £10 million to persuade Nottingham Forest to part with Anthony Elanga

Expanding on David Ornstein's original report, Mark Douglas of iNews posted on X that Nottingham Forest will be looking for £10m-£15 million more to even entertain the idea of letting Elanga go.

Elanga has often been reported as being a £60 million target for Newcastle, so it's not as though the Newcastle board can be shocked by the figure.

The question now is whether Newcastle feel that Elanga would be worth £55m-£60 million? They were ready to pay that much to land Bryan Mbeumo, which does give us an insight into how much Newcastle were willing to part with to land a top winger.

Anthony Elanga feels like the perfect fit for Eddie Howe's Newcastle

--------------------------------------------------------------------

At just 23, Elanga would be a perfect Eddie Howe signing. He's already Premier League proven but still has plenty of room to grow before he hits his peak.

Elanga is already an established international with Sweden, where he plays alongside Alexander Isak. On paper, he's the perfect signing for Newcastle this summer.

He may not hit the ground running at the same pace as Bryan Mbeumo would have, but it would surely only take Eddie Howe a few months to pull him up another level.
