Manchester United have made more progress in the summer transfer window than Newcastle United.
While the Red Devils need to do more business than Eddie Howe’s side, they have at least made a start on their summer rebuild. Matheus Cunha has joined Man United, despite the Brazilian holding talks with Newcastle United officials.
Next on Ruben Amorim’s agenda is another forward, and it is another player who the Magpies were interested in signing.

Brentford are looking for more than £60million, while Mbeumo’s wage demands were also a problem for Newcastle.
They are seemingly less of an issue for Manchester United, who continue to chase the 25-year-old. A new offer has been submitted, with the Telegraph reporting that Man United have now proposed a deal worth more than £60million for Mbeumo.
The report adds that Brentford would receive more money up front, with Amorim eager to sign the Cameroon international before pre-season begins.
Newcastle United should feel vindicated by Bryan Mbeumo decision
As Manchester United get set to bow down to Brentford’s demands, Newcastle should feel vindicated by their decision.

While it was frustrating for the Toon Army, Newcastle were right to walk away from Mbeumo. The finances were completely wrong. Any deal would have massively dented the Magpies’ other transfer plans, during a summer in which Howe needs to add depth to his squad.
There is no denying that Mbeumo would have been an excellent signing for Newcastle, but not at the price they were being asked to pay. At more than £60million, he would have become one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings. In a summer in which Newcastle need to do a lot of business, spending that much money on just one player would have been unwise.
Newcastle’s decision was the correct one, and the amount that Man United are ultimately going to have to pay for Mbeumo proves that. However, the pressure is on to identify a suitable alternative.
