Kevin Durant Issues Strong Response to Warriors, Steve Kerr Report

Fresh off his blockbuster trade from the Phoenix Suns, veteran forward Kevin Durant was traded to the Houston Rockets this past weekend—marking the end of a turbulent chapter and a fresh start for the 36-year-old veteran. Prior to the trade, rumors linked Durant to several other teams, including a possible reunion with Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors in February, but the trade never materialized.

Among the speculated reasons, a report by Logan Murdock of The Ringer claimed that Durant was reluctant to return due to lingering issues with Steve Kerr, particularly over offensive strategies from his final Warriors season.

Murdock wrote that Durant “repeatedly complained both publicly and privately about Kerr’s offensive principles,” and although they have since reconciled, the friction was reportedly a major deterrent.

On Tuesday, a Warriors fan account posted the report on X. However, Durant, who caught wind of the post, did not let the rumors stand—responding to the post with a clear message on what he felt was a reporter attempting to stay relevant.

“We still on this???" he asked. "Obvious opportunity for Logan Murdock to gain even more attention and try too revive his career by using my name and the Warriors. The audience is SICK AND TIRED of the same [expletive] narrative. Be better my man"

Durant’s three-year stint with Golden State was decorated: back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018, two Finals MVPs, and shaping one of the most potent offenses in NBA history. However, despite his accomplishments, Durant’s relationship with the Warriors fanbase has severed since his move to the Brooklyn Nets in 2019.

Many continue stating that had Durant remained in Golden State rather than joining Brooklyn, his career would look a lot different, and even more decorated.
