Everton are still yet to resolve the situation of Idrissa Gana Gueye, who is out of contract this summer.
Gueye has been a superb performer for Everton over the years, but at 35, it may be time for him to move on and for the club to find a replacement.
Everton have already lost several experienced players such as Ashley Young and Abdoulaye Doucoure this summer, and Gueye departing on top will be difficult to replace.
However, they may now be able to sign an upgrade on Gueye for just £9million, as they now have an interest in a relegated Premier League star.

Everton want Wilfried Ndidi
Everton have been linked with a move for Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi, and could land him at a bargain price.

It has been reported that Everton could land him for just £9million as a result of a relegation clause, with the Nigerian previously targeted by the Toffees in 2024.

Ndidi’s Premier League record
Ndidi would come with bags of Premier League experience, and at 28, he would be arriving in his prime years.
Although Gueye is a popular figure at Everton, Ndidi could end up proving to be an upgrade on the veteran, and may be a better solution than extending the 35-year-old’s contract.

Ndidi can provide more athleticism than Gueye
Gueye’s excellent performances over the years have been based on his defensive awareness and his ability to break up play.
However, as he gets older, this will become more limited, and he will soon find he cannot compete physically against players such as Ndidi.
As per FBref, while Gueye is a better passer than Ndidi, he ranks well behind in aerial duels won, blocks and clearances, in which the Leicester star is among the very best in Europe.
Ndidi also contributes more going forward, and provided five assists in the Premier League last season despite featuring in a poor side, and a move to Everton could help him reach his best level.
At 28, Ndidi could still be a long-term signing for Everton, and with 220 Premier League appearances under his belt, he could bring invaluable experience to the dressing room.
