New Orleans Pelicans trade high-level scorer to Washington Wizards

Now that the NBA Finals are over, trade winds are blowing harder than ever. We’ve already seen multiple trades executed over the past few days, from Kevin Durant to Jrue Holiday. Now the New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards are making headlines too.

According to [ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania](https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1937589524114104829), the Pelicans have agreed to trade guard CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk, and a future second-round pick to the Wizards in exchange for Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, and the 40th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Ultimately, it’s a swap of high-level scorers. McCollum has averaged 19.6 points per game in his career. Meanwhile, Poole has averaged 16.8 PPG in his career.

Yet, there are some expensive contracts being swapped here too. McCollum is headed into the final year of his contract, where he’s set to make $30.6 million in 2025. Poole is set to earn $31.8 million next season, and $34 million in 2026, which will be the final year of his deal.

The Pelicans now own the seventh overall pick in the first round, No. 23, and No. 40 in Wednesday’s NBA Draft. The Wizards own the sixth and 18th picks in the first round.
