Washington Mystics center Shakira Austin has been named the [WNBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week](https://mystics.wnba.com/news/shakira-austin-named-eastern-conference-player-of-the-week) for games played from June 16 to June 22, 2005. This is also the first such honor of her career. Austin led the Mystics to a 2–1 record during that stretch, averaging 19.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting an 58.5 percent from the field.
Her standout performance came on June 20 against the Atlanta Dream, where she scored a career-high 28 points on 13-of-17 shooting, grabbed 10 rebounds, and added three assists, three steals, and two blocks. That game marked her first double-double of the season and placed her in elite company—joining Sylvia Fowles and Liz Cambage as the only WNBA players to post at least 28 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals on 75% shooting or better. At 24, Austin is the youngest player to achieve that stat line.
She followed that up with 21 points and seven rebounds in an overtime win over Dallas, marking the first time in her career she’s posted back-to-back 20+ point games. Austin becomes the ninth player in Mystics history to receive Player of the Week honors and the first since [Elena Delle Donne in July 2022](https://www.bulletsforever.com/mystics/2022/7/19/23269702/washington-mystics-elena-delle-donne-wnba-eastern-conference-player-of-the-week).
