Former Portland Trail Blazers star guard CJ McCollum is moving on to his third team.
Three years after the Blazers traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans at the 2022 trade deadline, McCollum is being dealt to the Washington Wizards, according to a report from Chris Haynes.
The Pelicans also sent center Kelly Olynyk and a future second-round pick in the deal, getting back guard Jordan Poole, forward Saddiq Bey and a second-round pick in this week’s draft (Wednesday and Thursday).
McCollum, 33, went to the Pelicans with a chance to win after a disastrous final season with the Blazers that saw him miss several weeks with a collapsed lung and Damian Lillard undergo season-ending core muscle surgery.
However, periodic injuries to star forward Zion Williamson derailed all four Pelicans’ seasons with McCollum on the roster.
Now he goes to a Wizards team that went 33-131 over the past two seasons.
McCollum, who played nine seasons with the Blazers, remains a potent scorer. He averaged 21.1 points in 56 games last season, shooting 44.4% from the field and 37.3% from beyond the arc.
