Newcastle United forced to change social media post after graphic could have been interpreted…

Today, the tickets for Newcastle United's first pre-season friendly at St James' Park went on sale.

Newcastle United recently added an extra friendly to their pre-season schedule, confirming that Spanish side Espanyol will play the Magpies at St James' Park on Friday 8th August, the evening before they will play Atletico Madrid for the Sela Cup.

As tickets went on sale this morning, the club put the message out on their usual channels, but it wasn't long before fans spotted something in their initial post, which went out on X.

Using Alexander Isak as part of the announcement image, the club opted for the words "On sale now" to accompany the image. Obviously, in reference to the tickets for the Espanyol game, but it could easily have been misinterpreted.

Alexander Isak: On Sale Now

Fans quickly pointed out that it looks like they were advertising that Alexander Isak was available for transfer, which, given the constant rumours about our star striker being tracked by Liverpool, would have just added fuel to the fire.

The club quickly changed the graphic, rewording the caption to "Get your tickets", but this is the internet, and nothing is truly ever gone, and The Mirror have shown the original post in their story this evening.

They also quoted on fan who responded to the original post with: “A picture of Isak with a big 'On sale now' sign is not the best idea...”

Whoops!

Of course, the replies to the current post are just angry fans demanding signings

While the post was quickly changed, we were disappointed that there was no acknowledgement by the social media team. Own your mistakes, folks, make a joke out of it or something.

If Newcastle don't get a move on and sign some players, Eddie Howe is going to have to field the same XI in both games!

At least that's what you'd think, looking at the replies under the post on X, as panic mode has clearly been activated.
