Reports: Blazers’ Thybulle picks up player option for 2025-26 season

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Matisse Thybulle has opted into the player option of his contract for the 2025-26 season, according to NBA reporter Chris Haynes.

Thybulle, 28, will earn $11.5 million for the season, and will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The defensive specialist, who was the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year his senior year of college with the Washington Huskies in 2019, was acquired by Portland from the Philadelphia 76ers in February 2023.

He is a two-time member of the NBA All-Defensive second team, in 2021 and 2022, while playing for the 76ers.

Injuries limited the wing to just 15 games last season, though he averaged career-highs of 7.5 points and 2.2 steals per game in limited action, while also shooting 44% from three.

Thybulle made 22 starts for the Blazers after being acquired midway through the 2022-23 season, and then appeared in 65 games with 19 starts in 2023-24.

For his career, Thybulle, who attended high school in the Seattle area after moving from Australia, is a 34% three-point shooter.

However, his percentage during his tenure with the Blazers sits just below 37%, while averaging nearly twice as many attempts as his time with the 76ers.

The news comes one day after reports that the Blazers acquired guard Jrue Holiday from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Anfernee Simons.

Portland holds the 11th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, which takes place Wednesday and Thursday.
