IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Bennett Stirtz was a walking highlight reel at Drake last season.
NBA team saw his talent and showed interest. So did several big-time college programs when he entered the transfer portal.
A far cry from his days at Liberty High School in Missouri, when almost no team wanted him.
But Ben McCollum recruited Stirtz to Division 2 Northwest Missouri State.
Stirtz followed McCollum when he got the job at Drake last season and followed him again when McCollum took the job at Iowa.
Out of all his transfer options, and potential N-I-L deals, Stirtz want to spend another year with McCollum at Iowa.
“Just the development he’s got on me, and the steps he’s helped me take,” said Stirtz. “I think it’ll be even better in the Big Ten, just learning and growing.”
He says the biggest lessons from McCollum come off the court.
