ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - On Sunday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder made state history by winning the NBA Finals, marking Oklahoma’s first pro sports championship ever.
The victory left communities across the state ecstatic, including patrons at The Station, a sports bar in Ardmore.
Packed wall to wall with Thunder fans that night, everyone was there to cheer on their home team.
“It was a great win, great series,” Thunder fan Gary Cummings said. “I was afraid we blew it in game six. But SGA had a great game and a great win for Oklahoma City and the whole state.”
Bartender Amanda Riley worked the night of the game. She says the energy was electric.
“It felt like we were there. The fans were on the edge of their seats, hooting and hollering and they were waving their towels around,” Riley said. “It was something like nobody had seen before. Everybody was so behind the Thunder, rooting for them.”
Owner Chris Wright says it was their biggest turnout yet.
“Game seven was probably our biggest, obviously with it being game seven, it was our biggest show to date,” Wright said.
With the energy radiating the room at The Station, Wright decided to keep it going.
“We wanted to celebrate the Oklahoma City Thunder and their championship win, so we just wanted to air the parade,” Wright explained.
Oklahoma City’s parade was filled with fans on Tuesday. But, fans like Cummings who stayed in Ardmore were just as proud of their champions.
“Very proud of them,” Cummings said. “When it looked bad, they came back in game seven and gave it their all and played a great game.”
