Chelsea have qualified for the round of 16 of the Club World Cup after a 2-0 win against ES Tunis in their final group stage game.
The Blues got off to a good start in the competition, beating LAFC in their opening fixture. However, things didn’t go to plan in their second outing as Flamengo picked up a deserved 3-1 win.
Enzo Maresca made 10 changes to his side for the game against Tunis in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and it took a while for them to get going.
However, their quality eventually showed, and they have now made it into the next round of the Club World Cup. A good chunk of money is coming their way as a result.
How much money Chelsea have earned for reaching the Club World Cup Round of 16
The Club World Cup is a very lucrative competition for all clubs involved.
As we told you after the first game, Chelsea made £1.5 million with their win over LAFC, and that sum has now doubled following their win over ES Tunis.
Tosin Adarabioyo and Liam Delap’s goals just before half-time followed by a late striker from Tyrique George were enough for the Blues to bank another £1.5 million, but more money is headed in their direction.
Apart from the money for winning the two games, Chelsea will also be awarded an additional £5.8 million for making it into the Round of 16.
Chelsea Prize money
Winning two games in the group stage £3m
Reaching the round of 16 £5.8m
Total so far £8.8m
An £8.8 million cash injection may seem like a small amount in transfer terms, but it is a lot of money for just winning two games and making it into the knockout stages.
In comparison, Chelsea won just £5.9 million for winning the UEFA Conference League.

Who will Chelsea face in the round of 16, and how much more money can they earn?
Chelsea have finished second in their Club World Cup group, behind Flamengo.
The Brazilian side, despite finishing on top, have been handed a tougher draw as they face Bayern Munich in the round of 16.
Chelsea, on the other hand, will take on Portuguese giants Benfica, who finished on top of their group in the first stage of the competition.
Should Maresca’s men get past Benfica and make it into the quarter-finals, they will pocket an additional £10.1 million, which is just under half of what PSG made for winning the Champions League last term.
If Chelsea go all the way in the Club World Cup and end up winning it, they will earn a whopping £30 million. Here’s a breakdown:
Reaching the quarter-final: £10.1m
Reaching the semi-final: £16.2m
Reaching the final: £23.2m
Winning the Club World Cup: £30m
