Chelsea have been fined £67,500 by FIFA after what they did in the Club World Cup group stages

Chelsea have made it into the round of 16 of the Club World Cup after winning two of their three games in the group stages.

The Blues took on ES Tunis in the early hours of Wednesday morning and came out on top thanks to goals from Tosin Adarabioyo, Liam Delap and Tyrique George.

Despite their win, Enzo Maresca’s men could only finish second in Group D, behind Flamengo, who beat them 3-1 in the second game.

Chelsea will be happy to go through regardless, but they, like all other clubs, will have to pay a fine to FIFA for some of their infringements during the group stage.

Why Chelsea will have to pay a fine to FIFA after the Club World Cup group stages

The Club World Cup helps clubs make a lot of money.

The revamped competition is extremely lucrative, and Chelsea are enjoying the riches that come with it having played three games already.

However, FIFA have implemented a rule where clubs will have to pay fines if their players get booked during games.

As per Tutto Juve, a yellow card warrants a fine of $12,000 (£8800), while two yellows for a player in the same game increase that figure to $15,000 (£11,000). A straight red card, on the other hand, will cost clubs $20,000 (£14,700).

So, how much will Chelsea have to pay after the group stage? Here’s a breakdown:

No. Fine

Yellow cards 6 £52,800

Two yellow cards in the same game 0 £0

Red cards 1 £14,700

Total £67,500

A £67,500 fine is next to nothing for Chelsea, who have won £8.8 million at the Club World Cup so far after making it into the round of 16.

Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson’s ban gets extended after his red card

Nicolas Jackson has made a lot of headlines recently.

The Senegal international came on as a substitute against Flamengo in Chelsea’s second group stage game, but he was shown a red card after just four minutes.

An automatic one-game ban was handed to him for his actions, but FIFA’s disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and have now extended that suspension to another game.

Jackson missed the clash against ES Tunis as expected, but he will now have to sit out Chelsea’s round of 16 game against Benfica as well.
