After a successful loan spell in eastern France during the second half of last season, Ireland international Andrew Omobamidele has signed a permanent deal with Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg from Nottingham Forest.
The defender joined Forest in 2023 but made just 15 appearances for the Premier League club before featuring 11 times for Strasbourg in 2025 alone. The move follows Strasbourg triggering their obligation to buy Omobamidele after his loan.
Nottingham Forest’s official club website said, "Everyone at Nottingham Forest wishes Andrew well for the future and thanks him for his contribution during his time at the club."
Hoping to shake the injury troubles that have hampered his career in recent times, the former Leixlip United player has signed a four-year deal with the French side.
With the potential relegation of Olympique Lyonnais, Strasbourg could move up a place in last season’s table, securing Europa League football next year — one tier above Forest, who qualified for the UEFA Conference League.
A statement from the club regarding their first ever Irish player said, “In just a few weeks, he was able to showcase his qualities on the ball. His calm demeanour and natural authority made him a leader of the defence. He played 11 matches last season, actively contributing to Racing’s qualification for the 2025–2026 Conference League play-offs.”
