Barcelona could agree a last-ditch deal to sign Manchester United star Marcus Rashford this summer.

The England international spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa after making the move to Villa Park in January.

The 27-year-old registered four goals and six assists in 17 appearances for Unai Emery’s side before picking up a hamstring injury.

Rashford’s preferred destination is believed to be Barcelona after he’s long been linked with a move to the Spanish giants.

However, the La Liga club are yet to make a move for Rashford this summer and are now closing in on a deal to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that deal and the arrival of Joan Garcia from Espanyol are likely to take up the majority of Barcelona’s budget.

In an interview with Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz on 22 June, Rashford admitted he would like to play with Lamine Yamal at Barcelona.

Football Insider revealed on 4 June Man United are keen to sell Rashford this summer, but they have not ruled out another loan spell.

He is believed to be on around £325,000 a week at Old Trafford, with his contract set to run until 2028.

Man United want ‘big’ Marcus Rashford fee

Borson suggested Barcelona could agree a loan deal for Rashford towards the end of the transfer window.

He told Football Insider: “There are not that many options for Rashford.

“So, his problem is he wants to go to Barcelona by the looks of things.

“Well, that’s all well and good, but somehow Barcelona managed to scramble together the fees and the finances to buy Garcia and it looks like Nico Williams.

“I would think that’s going to use most of their budget.

“Certainly, Manchester United still want a fee for Rashford and a fairly big one.

“I think Barcelona’s going to be really difficult to do.

“It’s maybe one of these that goes to the end of the window and he ends up in Barcelona on loan.”

Man United’s updated stance on Hugo Ekitike bid revealed

In terms of incomings at Old Trafford, Football Insider revealed on 17 June United are unlikely to pursue a summer deal for Hugo Ekitike despite his form for Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Bundesliga club want close to £85million for the France Under-21 international, and Ruben Amorim’s side can’t afford a deal at that price.

Frankfurt are not in a position where they must sell Ekitike this summer and are able to hold out for that figure.

The 23-year-old registered 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances in the 2024-25 season.
