Manchester City have made a significant U-turn on their ticketing situation after reducing prices for next season.

Several Premier League sides have moved to increase their ticket prices for the 2025-26 campaign as they look to boost their revenues.

Man City confirmed a season ticket price freeze in April following a backlash from fans over the ticketing situation at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool, West Ham, Brentford, Tottenham, Wolves and Burnley have also decided to freeze their rates for the season ahead.

Man City have now gone one step further after announcing on 13 June their lowest-price tickets will be reduced for 2025-26.

The 10-time English champions said for the Manchester derby or an equivalent fixture, the lowest-priced adult tickets have been reduced by 43 per cent, while the highest-priced tickets have been slashed by 22 per cent.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the ticket price cut is likely more down to supply and demand than the fan protests.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have faced a backlash after confirming their matchday prices could reach £97 next season, while the most expensive ticket at Old Trafford for the 2024-25 campaign was £66.

Man City face ticket demand issues

Borson insisted ticket prices have been getting too expensive at the Etihad.

He told Football Insider: “I think you’ve got next season a big new stand opening up.

“You have got obviously the fan protests, and you’ve got this thing called supply and demand. Ultimately, no club is immune to supply and demand. If you push the prices too high, you will find that there are not enough buyers for those tickets.

“People will say this is a specific City situation, but it isn’t. Particularly last season because the product generally was pretty poor across the Premier League, and it’s getting too expensive.

“There is a limit to what people can afford and will pay. Once you start buffering up against that limit, then you’re going to have to do something with the prices and City have gone early I think to try and adjust some of those prices.

“I paid for a few games almost £90 for a league game. Not a hospitality seat, just a good seat in the main stand for £90, and it’s just too much.

“You just get to the point where it’s too much, and City are adjusting those sorts of prices. The headline is obviously a very big number, but I doubt that the actual price will change that much really for the biggest games.

“In short, people will say that it’s all down to the protest, but I’d say it’s a lot to do with supply and demand.”

Man City make final Morgan Gibbs-White decision

In terms of on-field matters, Football Insider revealed on 16 June Man City have made a final decision on signing Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.

Following the arrivals of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, the Manchester giants’ interest in the Nottingham Forest star has cooled.

Forest’s £70million valuation for their star midfielder is thought to be a large factor in the decision.
