Nuggets president says Nikola Jokic could get traded

Denver Nuggets president Josh Kroenke stated that the organization isn’t afraid of entering the second apron and spending beyond the salary cap. However, he cautioned that if things take a wrong turn, it could lead to a scenario where the team is forced to consider trading their superstar, Nikola Jokic.

The Denver Nuggets have been undergoing major changes in their organization recently, including a significant front-office restructuring—firing head coach Michael Malone and GM Calvin Booth—but they remain committed to building around Nikola Jokic in pursuit of another title.

During the press event introducing Ben Tenzer and Jon Wallace, Denver Nuggets president Josh Kroenke not only addressed Jokic’s future contract extension but also discussed team spending beyond the salary cap and the potential impact that could have.

"I think that for us as an organization going into that second apron is not necessarily really something that we're scared of," Kroenke said. "I think that there are rules around it that we need to be very careful of with our injury history."

The Nuggets president warned that, in the wrong scenario, entering the second apron could force the team to trade their three-time MVP, Nikola Jokic.

"The wrong person gets injured and very quickly you’re under a scenario that I never want to have to contemplate, and that’s trading No. 15 [Nikola Jokic]," Kroenke stated.

The Nuggets ended this season with a second-round playoff exit to the Oklahoma City Thunder, losing the series 3–4, after finishing fourth in the regular season with a 50–32 record.
