Newcastle United are well short of Nottingham Forest’s valuation for Anthony Elanga.
The Magpies have made a formal move for the 23-year-old, but have been unsuccessful. Newcastle offered £45million for Anthony Elanga, which was turned down by Nottingham Forest.
Eddie Howe’s side must now decide what is next. Newcastle have alternatives to Elanga, as they ponder whether to up their bid for the Sweden international.
As it stands, Newcastle United are well below Nottingham Forest’s valuation.

How Anthony Elanga feels about joining Newcastle United
That is according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Nottingham Forest rejecting the Magpies’ £45million offer for Elanga.
“Newcastle have shown their hand and it is so off the mark,” he said.
“Forest want more than £60million, so they are way off. Newcastle like Elanga a lot, they think he would move to the North East, but as it stands it is a non-starter.
“Could Elanga agitate for a move? I don’t think that is likely at this stage. So will Newcastle go back for him? I am not sure, but certainly not at Forest’s valuation level.

“Newcastle are working on other things and Joao Pedro remains their most likely option for a forward, with talks continuing.”
Newcastle United should not pay Anthony Elanga’s asking price
A fee of more than £60million would potentially make Elanga Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever. The record currently belongs to his fellow Swede Alexander Isak, who cost £63million from Real Sociedad in 2022.
Alexander Isak £63million from Real Sociedad August 2022
Sandro Tonali £55million from AC Milan July 2023
Anthony Gordon £45million from Everton January 2023
Is Elanga worth a similar amount? Newcastle United fans do not think so, with many of them eager for the club to take their business elsewhere.
That is exactly what they did with Bryan Mbeumo. He was Howe’s top target heading into the summer, only for Newcastle to decide that Mbeumo was too expensive.
Newcastle’s Mbeumo stance has proven to be correct, with Manchester United on course to pay more than £60million for the 25-year-old attacker.
There has to be better value elsewhere, potentially overseas. Newcastle do have options within the European market, such as Johan Bakayoko. Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi is also on Newcastle’s radar.
