Clarets host rock legends Iron Maiden for special friendly game

Burnley hosted rock legends Iron Maiden for a special friendly match at their Gawthorpe training ground.

The band were in the North West following their sold-out show at the Co-Op Live Arena on Sunday night as part of the ‘Run For Our Lives’ European tour, in which they will play to more than 1million fans.

Bassist Steve Harris led the Maiden team which also featured their management, road crew and support band, The Raven Age.

The Burnley side was made up of club staff including Academy coach Jack Cork, who made 266 appearances for the Clarets before moving into coaching.

Cork bagged a brace but there was nothing to separate the sides, who played out an entertaining 3-3 draw.

“We’ve been playing these matches all around the world for years and we were delighted to be able to get a game in,” Harris, a West Ham fan, [told the club site](https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/content/iron-maiden-make-burnley-fc-visit).

“We’ve been lucky enough to play at clubs like Barcelona, LA Galaxy and Bayern Munich and Burnley felt like the obvious choice in the North West.

“I’m really pleased to see Scott and the team back in the Premier League and wish them all the best next season… except for when they play West Ham of course”

The Iron Maiden team’s next fixture is against a West Ham XI on Sunday before another sold-out gig at the London Stadium.

Burnley chairman Alan Pace added: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Steve and the Iron Maiden team to Burnley.

“Football has a special way of bringing people together and this was a fantastic example of that.

“Everyone at the club had great fun and we’re proud to have hosted one of rock’s greatest icons here at Gawthorpe.”
