Liverpool’s summer transfer window has started with a real bang.
Indeed, we’re not even into July yet and the Reds have already broken their club transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz, while Jeremie Frimpong has also arrived on Merseyside.
Liverpool’s business isn’t finished there either. Milos Kerkez is set to sign for the Reds soon, while a new striker may also be on the agenda as Darwin Nunez is set to leave Anfield.
Speaking to Sports Mole, David Lynch has been discussing Liverpool’s transfer priorities this summer, and according to the journalist, there’s no real plan to strengthen the midfield at the moment.
Interestingly, Lynch says he’s been told Wataru Endo is now planning on staying at Anfield, claiming that he wants to fight for his place in the squad – a decision that surprised him.

Wataru Endo ready to fight at Liverpool
Lynch shared what he’s been told by sources close to Wataru Endo.
According to the journalist, Endo is set to stay at Liverpool as he’s determined to fight for his place and work his way into the team.
Lynch was left surprised by this, claiming that he thought the £16m Japan international would be looking to move on and play more football.
“As things stand at the moment and what you hear, you don’t think midfield is going to be an area of focus to be honest. You don’t get that feeling. Yeah, you don’t get that feeling that it’s a priority. Spots are opening up, Harvey Elliott there’s a real chance he goes now, but I spoke to people close to Wataru Endo only a couple of weeks ago and I don’t think he’s going to go, he’s determined to stay, and I did not expect that to be honest. I thought he’d be willing to move on to play more football,” Lynch said.
Liverpool’s midfield options analysed
Liverpool aren’t looking to make major additions to their midfield this summer, but they could be missing a trick here.
Indeed, as the Reds know only too well, it only takes a couple of injuries to cause a crisis in a problem position, especially as Harvey Elliott is likely to leave.
Liverpool do have some element of depth in midfield, but it’s hardly top-quality beyond their starting options.
Liverpool’s midfield options
Ryan Gravenberch
Alexis Mac Allister
Dominik Szoboszlai
Curtis Jones
Wataru Endo
Florian Wirtz
If Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch picked up injuries, Liverpool would be looking at starting Endo and Curtis Jones on a weekly basis, and while they’re both quality players, they’re not quite Champions League-winning calibre at the moment.
Florian Wirtz is also capable of playing deeper, but that’s far from his best role.
Liverpool could probably do with one more top-class midfield player to round off their squad.
