Darwin Nunez has appeared to confirm that he is leaving Liverpool this summer.
This comes after Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday that there were direct contacts between Napoli and the Anfield club for the transfer.
Nunez has given his initial green light to Napoli open to the move after being presented Conte’s project, with the Naples side equally keen on him.
Reports suggesting Nunez has agreed to a contract until 2030 with a base salary of €5 million per year plus bonuses.
But the clubs remain apart on the transfer fee, and that’s why Napoli representatives flew to the UK on Tuesday for face-to-face talks
Now, the 26-year-old has dropped another big indication that he is departing, commenting an interesting set of emojis to the Italian transfer guru on Instagram recently:
It comes as another hint that Nunez sees himself away from Liverpool.
Earlier this week, former Uruguay and Napoli midfielder Walter Gargano claimed that he had a phone call with Nunez, and that the Liverpool No.9 told him he wanted the Naples move:
I heard Darwin Nunez, he said ‘yes, I’m coming to Naples. I’ waiting to sign”‘ Gargano said to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“I talked to Nunez on the phone, he will decide with his family as De Bruyne did.”
“He told me he wants to come right away, he’s waiting to sign with Napoli.”
Nunez managed just seven goals and seven assists in 47 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.
The Uruguayan struggled to regain trust from Arne Slot after the second half of the season.
The striker’s contract runs until 2028, giving Liverpool a strong negotiating position despite his reduced playing time
However, the club appears willing to accept a financial loss on their investment rather than retain an asset that is going to depreciate as time goes on.
