A fresh report from Italy has given details on the fee Liverpool will receive from Darwin Nunez and his move to Napoli

The 26-year-old forward, who joined Liverpool as their club-record signing for £85 million in 2022, experienced a challenging 2024-25 season, and found himself increasingly sidelined.

Over the course of 46 appearances in all competitions, he managed just seven goals and seven assists – a return widely viewed as insufficient for a player expected to lead Liverpool’s attack.

Slot did not trust the Uruguayan in the second-half of the campaign.

Speculation continues to mount regarding the Uruguayan’s next destination. Atletico Madrid has emerged as a plausible candidate, although the Spanish club may not be prepared to meet Liverpool’s valuation.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Pro League remains a persistent alternative, having previously attempted to secure his signature during the January transfer window.

But the clearest destination appears to be Serie A side Napoli.

The 26-year-old has given his “initial green light” to join Antonio Conte’s Napoli project.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Nunez is “open to the move after being presented Conte’s project,” with the Serie A champions now his preferred destination over previous interest from Saudi Arabia.

And now, fresh reports from Italy have claimed that the deal gain significant progress after Tuesday’s face-to-face meeting between the two clubs.

Gerardo Fasano, as quoted by Arena Napoli, has claimed that the transfer is virtually done with only a few details to be ironed out.

“During the night Nunez’s move to Napoli would have been defined”.

“Only the last details would be limited now.”

The reporter adds details on the transfer, suggesting that the Reds will net €45 million plus five in bonuses as a transfer fee while Nunez will earn a tidy €5.5 million per season:

“The figure should be as follows: 45 million plus five in bonuses.

“The player has a three-year contract plus the option for another season at 5.5 million euros per season.”

“Now Napoli will decide whether to make a further attempt for Ndoye or focus on Federico Chiesa, Liverpool winger”.

His limited playing time became increasingly apparent in the season’s latter stages, with Nunez failing to start a Premier League match after the victory over Southampton on March 8.

This reduction in opportunities coincided with reports suggesting Liverpool owed Benfica an additional €5 million if he reached 60 starts, though Slot dismissed these claims as unsubstantiated.
