Manchester United are reportedly moving closer to signing a new striker this summer, as Marcus Rashford's potential transfer to Barcelona becomes increasingly likely.

Ruben Amorim is said to be seeking an upgrade for his revamped front three once Bryan Mbeumo joins Matheus Cunha through the Old Trafford entrance. United have already spent £62.5m to bring in Cunha from Wolves and appear ready to part with a similar sum to secure a deal for Mbeumo.

However, before they can strengthen further, player sales will be necessary, with Amorim still on the hunt for a striker and an energetic midfielder.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho are all reportedly up for sale as part of a major attacking overhaul. The funds raised and wages freed up from these four departures will likely be used to finance their pursuit of another goalscorer.

Meanwhile, Rashford has taken a significant step towards fulfilling his dream move to Barcelona, with one of Hansi Flick's forwards set to make way.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona winger Ansu Fati is due to undergo a medical at AS Monaco on Friday ahead of his departure from the Nou Camp.

The 22-year-old will join Monaco on a season-long loan, but the Ligue 1 club have the option to make the deal permanent next summer.

Barcelona's inability to offload Fati during the January transfer window was a key factor in their interest in Rashford not leading to a formal approach.

However, the reigning La Liga champions are reportedly planning to make a loan move for the 27-year-old once they've secured a deal for Athletic Club's Nico Williams. United are believed to favour a sale, but might agree to another loan for Rashford if Barcelona take on most, or all, of his wages.

The Old Trafford heavyweights have reportedly set a £40million price tag for Rashford, a figure Aston Villa chose not to meet after his loan spell there last season.

A loan with an option or obligation to buy wouldn't provide the outright profit that would bolster the transfer budget, but it could save millions from the wage bill.

Meanwhile, plans are also underway to sell Antony, Sancho and Garnacho on permanent deals. Real Betis are keen to sign Antony following his successful loan stint in Seville last term, while Fenerbahce are leading the chase for Sancho.

Garnacho's likely destination is yet to be confirmed, but the 20-year-old winger reportedly wants to remain in the Premier League and is considering a move to London.
