Newcastle United had to swiftly remove a social media post that featured the phrase "on sale now" next to an image of Alexander Isak - in what was meant to be a promotion for an upcoming pre-season match. The Magpies are set to welcome Espanyol to St James' Park on Friday, August 8, and were looking to boost ticket sales for the fixture, following a sell-out for their game against Atletico Madrid the next day.
Despite the tickets being reasonably priced, the club's choice of wording alongside a picture of one of Europe's most sought-after strikers raised eyebrows among supporters. The blunder came at a particularly sensitive time during the transfer window, with Isak drawing attention from top clubs.
After completing his third season with Newcastle and delivering his best performance to date, Isak has been linked with Liverpool among others. Despite the speculation, there's been no sign that Isak is keen to leave, nor do Newcastle wish to part with their talisman.
Acknowledging the faux pas, the club later took down the post and issued a revised version. Fans were quick to point out the error, with one supporter commenting: "A picture of Isak with a big 'On sale now' sign is not the best idea.." reports the Mirror.
Isak, as Newcastle's most valuable player, would command a fee well over £100million if he were to be sold, but all signs suggest he's staying put. With three years remaining on his contract and Champions League football on the horizon, it seems more likely than ever that the Swedish striker will remain a key figure for the Toon.

The securing of silverware this season, epitomised by Isak's decisive goal in the Carabao Cup final, affirms Newcastle's significant progress, and as long as the club's upward mobility aligns with Isak's aspirations, his tenure is expected to continue untroubled by transfer rumours. Eddie Howe has also spoken about keeping a hold of the 25-year-old for 2025/26.
He said: "We want to keep our strongest players, I've said that ever since I've been here and sat in this seat. We have to try and keep our best players and bring in more good players to make us even stronger because the ambition of the club and everyone connected with the club is long-term success and that's the only way to get that."

However, that hasn't prevented the Reds in showing an interest in Isak this summer. Liverpool shattered their £85m club record fee that they dropped on Darwin Nunez from Benfica back in 2022 by securing Florian Wirtz for a reported £116m from Bayer Leverkusen last week.
And the club could break the bank even further with the acquisition of Isak in the coming weeks. The Reds could still spend another £200m this summer and still fall in line with PSR regulations, so the £100m-plus valuation that Newcastle have slapped on their star man will be far from off-putting at present.
