Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool future has been the main topic of conversation to have emerged from Anfield over the last couple of weeks.
Ever since the start of the 2024-25 campaign, there have been talks of the Uruguay international leaving.
Most Liverpool fans gave the striker the benefit of the doubt and believed that he’d come good sooner or later, but after yet another disappointing season where he only contributed to 14 goals, the rumours have picked up once again.

Several teams from across the globe have been linked with a move for the former Benfica man; however, Napoli seem to be the ones leading the race at the moment, especially after what Uruguay legend Walter Gargano has said.
Walter Gargano shares that Darwin Nunez has told him he’s moving to Napoli
As mentioned, Napoli are the team that seem the most likely to prise Nunez away from Liverpool this summer.
Nunez wasn’t played all that often last term, but that hasn’t stopped Ally McCoist from dubbing the striker as “unbelievable” after Liverpool’s win against Paris Saint-Germain back in March.
And, while speaking to Italian outlet RadioGoal24 via Liverpool Offside, Gargano shared what Nunez has told him about his future.
“The heat of the Neapolitans would do him a lot of good,” he said.

“I spoke to him about a week ago, and I hope he gets to Naples. I told him, Go to Naples!’ He told me, Yes, I’m coming to Naples, I’m waiting to close with Napoli.”

Liverpool will need to find a suitable replacement for Darwin Nunez
Even though Nunez may not have had that much of an impact on the way things have panned out for Liverpool this season, there’s no denying that he’ll need to be replaced.
Although having six attacking options to choose from may seem a little over the top, with things such as the Africa Cup of Nations and injuries to think about, it’s always useful for teams to have two players for each position.
Several strikers have been linked with an Anfield switch over the last month or so, with Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Victor Osimhen the most likely to make the move at the moment.
Of course, each of these players has a massive price tag on their head, so unless some sales are made soon, Slot may find himself stuck with no way to bring anyone else in.
This would obviously be far from ideal, especially if Liverpool want to retain the Premier League title next season.
Only time will tell what the future has in store, but with the futures of Luis Diaz, Nunez and Harvey Elliott all up in the air at the moment, plenty of change is still afoot.
