Manchester United’s season came to a disappointing end with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
In the business end of the season, it was blindingly clear that Manchester United had nothing left to play for domestically other than pride.
Therefore, Ruben Amorim made sacrifices to prioritise the Europa League, including resting key players in league matches and giving minutes to academy graduates.
However, United lost the Europa League final in heartbreaking fashion, with Brennan Johnson scoring the only goal of the game in Bilbao.
Amorim offered to leave United after the match, but it was Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou who ended up losing his job.

Ange Postecoglou’s team talk before Europa League final
The Europa League final was Amorim’s first European final as manager, and the same applied for Postecoglou at Tottenham.
Before kick-off, Amorim downplayed the importance of the final, suggesting United should be targeting bigger and better things. Meanwhile, Postecoglou was revving up his players for the showpiece.
In a new documentary titled ‘Winners’, Postecoglou’s team talk has now been made public.

“Remember why we do this. It’s not about just about winning things. It’s about paying back. Giving to people who love us and make sacrifices for us,” Postecoglou said.
“So you walk out today, not just 11 brothers. Walk out today with all of us with you, with all those people with you.
“The thousands in the stadium with you, hundreds of thousands back home with you. We’re the biggest army. They can’t stop us…they can’t stop us. What we have can’t be stopped.
“Just go out there, play our football, be like a family. At the end of the game, when he’s lifting that trophy, you’re going to make all those people prouder than they have ever been in their life.”
Ruben Amorim outclassed Ange Postecoglou in Europa League final
Tottenham lifted the trophy in Bilbao but it is Amorim who is now preparing for a new season as United manager while Postecoglou is job hunting.
Just six months into his job as United head coach, Amorim led his side to a final and devised a game plan worthy of the win. However, the stats from the final prove he was let down by his players.
