Manchester United and Everton eye cut-price Leicester City transfer

Wilfred Ndidi could earn a move back to the Premier League with Manchester United and Everton said to be showing interest in the Leicester City midfielder.

Ndidi stayed with City the last time they were relegated but with a reported release clause of just £9m in the contract he signed last year, it’s expected he will depart this summer.

Saudi Arabian clubs have shown interest and talkSPORT say Man Utd and Everton both have Ndidi on their radar too.

After Jamie Vardy’s departure, Ndidi is now City’s longest-serving first-team player, having joined the club nearly a decade ago.

While he missed two months of the season with a hamstring injury, Ndidi was otherwise a regular for City this past campaign.

At first, under Steve Cooper, he was utilised in a more attacking role, as he had been in the Championship under Enzo Maresca, and the Nigerian finished the campaign with five assists.

But under Ruud van Nistelrooy, he reverted back to his more traditional defensive role, protecting the back four.

While he did hit the heights of his best City seasons, he performed better than he did during the previous relegation campaign, when his form took a significant nosedive.

He ranked 15th in the Premier League for tackles won this past season, with all of those above him in the rankings playing more minutes.

Central midfield looks to be a key area for City to strengthen this summer, with Ndidi not the only player in the centre of the park who could leave.

Boubakary Soumare has one year remaining on his deal and is due to be sold, while Hamza Choudhury, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United, has been linked away too.

Harry Winks is also into the final year of his contract and may be keen to move on having been frozen out for the final couple of months of last season.

Oliver Skipp is set to stay, while City have the likes of Sammy Braybrooke and Henry Cartwright coming up through the youth ranks.
