Olympique Lyon left-back Nicolas Tagliafico may be on his way to Everton this transfer window.

The Argentine World Cup winner’s current contract at the French club is set to expire soon, and he could potentially become a free agent.

David Moyes has Tagliafico on his radar as the Toffees look to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

The Blues now arguably have a significant advantage in pursuing the 32-year-old to move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the ongoing transfer window.

Everton can seal Tagliafico transfer after Lyon relegation from Ligue 1

Lyon have been officially relegated from Ligue 1 due to their financial difficulties.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

While the French club can appeal the decision, this uncertainty will undoubtedly leave many players wanting to leave soon.

Tagliafico’s Lihue 1 record last season.

Tagliafico’s contract is already about to expire, and one would think he will surely be put off on signing a new deal to play top-flight football elsewhere.

The Toffees now seem to be one step closer to signing the Argentina international, as an extension at the Groupama Stadium seems unlikely.

Moyes needs defensive reinforcements at Bramley-Moore Dock

Ashley Young’s departure from Goodison Park has certainly left the Blues needing to bolster their backline this summer.

While Moyes counts on Seamus Coleman ahead of next season, his consistent fitness issues are a cause for concern, and a replacement should undoubtedly be signed.

Vitalii Mykolenko played the majority of games at left-back for the Merseyside outfit last season, but they should look to add reinforcements in that area.

Everton must add more competition for the Ukraine international in the squad, and Tagliafico is a bargain option to add more depth to the squad.

The Toffees also need to assess their situation at right-back, with Jake O’Brien being preferred by Moyes after he replaced Sean Dyche.

Nathan Patterson is an option for the Scottish manager, but the former Rangers star has struggled with injuries in recent months, and he could be on his way out soon.

Tagliafico would add much-needed depth and experience to the Merseyside outfit’s squad, and they should consider making an approach in the coming days.
