Nick Sirianni only needed two seasons to take the Eagles to the Super Bowl It took Andy Reid six. Sirianni did in four seasons what Reid could not in 14 seasons with the team when he led the Eagles to their second Super Bowl title.
His .706 regular-season winning percentage is fifth all-time among coaches that logged at least 24 games and the four guys ahead of him are all in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Eagles’ head coach is already fourth on the franchise’s all-time wins list with a 48-20 regular-season. He’s second in postseason wins with six in nine games.
Respect, however, is still alluding the Eagles’ sometimes fiery and unorthodox coach as he gets set for his fifth season with the team.
A year ago after the team collapsed down the stretch and lost in the first round of the playoffs, the only list of coaches Sirianni found himself on was the ones that placed him on a hot seat heading into 2024.
He responded by overseeing just the third 18-win team in NFL history.
Sirianni is no longer on the hot seat, but he’s also not as high as he should be on the lists of top coaches around the league.
Pro Football Focus, for example, has Sirianni ranked at No. 8. A year ago the league’s top 10 looked like this: 1. Reid, 2. San Francisco’s Kyle Shanahan, 3. Baltimore’s John Harbaugh, 4. the L.A. Rams’ Sean McVay, 5. Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin, 6. Green Bay’s Matt LaFleur, 7. Detroit’s Dan Campbell, 8. Houston’s DeMeco Ryans, 9. Cleveland’s Kevin Stefanski and 10. Buffalo’s Sean McDermott.
Sirianni was 8-0 against those coaches last season, but he still ranked only eighth in the PFF coaching rankings ahead of the 2025 season.
Here was the web site’s comments about the Eagles’ coach: Sirianni is often the target of criticism when the Eagles lose, but credit needs to be given when it’s due. He’s an outstanding 48-20 in the regular season as Philadelphia’s head coach and has made the playoffs in each of his first four seasons. The Eagles emphatically proved they were the best team in football last season. They were the NFL’s highest-graded team and lost just one game after Week 4.
Philadelphia’s commitment to the run game in 2024 was its biggest adjustment from a confounding 2023. The offense ranked just 13th in run-play percentage in 2023 but led the NFL with a 51.2% clip last season. The Eagles were the only team to run the ball more than throw it. Of course, it helps to haveSaquon Barkley, who racked up more than 2,500 rushing yards last year, including the postseason. Sirianni and the Eagles committed to an old-school style of football, and it paid off with a championship.
The evaluation fails to recognize how Sirianni navigated beyond what had been a shaky relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts and how often his players, including newcomer Barkley, embraced his style of coaching.
PFF’s top 10 for 2025 looked like this: 1. Reid, 2. Denver’s Sean Payton, 3. McVay, 4. John Harbaugh, 5. Tomlin, 6. the Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh, 7. Shanahan, 8. Sirianni, 9. Campbell and 10. Stefanski.
Sirianni’s overall record against that cast of coaches is 11-4. Sirianni and the Eagles will face Reid, Payton, McVay, Jim Harbaugh and Campbell this season.
Late last week profootballnetwork.com did a similar list and had Sirianni ranked fourth behind Reid, McVay and John Harbaugh. A year ago he was 11th in their rankings.
