While several teams are expected to pursue veteran guards, the Dallas Mavericks have already emerged as one of the more aggressive suitors.
With Kyrie Irving continuing his rehab from an ACL tear suffered in March, Dallas is actively exploring options to reinforce its backcourt.
The Mavericks have reportedly shown interest in veterans such as Chris Paul, Malcolm Brogdon, and Dennis Schroder.
And now, according to Shams Charania of ESPN, D'Angelo Russell has joined that group of potential targets. Dallas is expected to consider using its $5.7 million mid-level exception (MLE) on one of these experienced guards.
Russell began the 2024–25 season with the Los Angeles Lakers before being traded midseason to the Brooklyn Nets. The 29-year-old averaged 12.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.8 rebounds this year, offering a steady scoring and playmaking presence at the point guard spot.
