Man Utd and Chelsea are in early talks about a possible player exchange involving Alejandro Garnacho and Christopher Nkunku. Both stars are seeking new challenges this summer.
Garnacho Eyes Exit After Rift with Amorim
Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Manchester United looks uncertain. The young winger has reportedly fell out with new boss Ruben Amorim.
The 20-year-old forward had earlier impressed after rising through the club’s academy. But, he was left out of key matches late in the season. He was benched for the Europa League final and left out completely for the Premier League’s final day as well. His public behavior since has further frustrated fans and club officials.
Garnacho now appears ready to move on, with Chelsea leading the chase for his signature. Utd have set a valuation of around £70m million but may negotiate. That is especially as any fee received counts as pure profit under league financial rules.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to boost their winger options. They could see Garnacho as a perfect fit in Enzo Maresca’s plans.
Nkunku & Garnacho Struggling, A Swap Could Offer Fresh Start
On the other hand, Christopher Nkunku hasn’t hit top form since joining the Blues for £52m. The Frenchman made just nine league starts this past season and has struggled to make a real impact.
The club is reportedly willing to sell him, the Red Devils could swoop in and offer the 27-year-old a fresh opportunity. Both clubs are exploring the idea of separate transfers that would see Garnacho and Nkunku go in opposite directions.
Interestingly, Utd’s recruitment chief Christopher Vivell was at Chelsea when Nkunku was signed. Also, he worked with him at RB Leipzig. This strengthens the potential link. Utd are also chasing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, having already made a second bid over £60 million.
Whether Garnacho and Nkunku switch places or not remains to be seen. But, both players seem ready for a change. The summer window could bring just that.
