Chelsea will be looking to strengthen their centre-back ranks this summer. The position has proven to be a problem for them in recent times. Wesley Fofana was brought in to be the long-term answer there but has spent three seasons dealing with injuries. The likes of Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi have failed to establish themselves in the team as well.
Levi Colwill seems to be the only [Chelsea](https://theprideoflondon.com/chelsea-blockbuster-swap-deal-manchester-united) centre-back who has a secure spot in the starting XI. Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo rotated alongside him at the end of the season but neither is viewed as a long-term solution there.
As a result, Chelsea have been linked with quite a few centre-backs in recent weeks. But they have faced their setbacks as well.
Dean Huijsen ended up joining Real Madrid after it had looked like Chelsea were the favourites to sign him. On the other hand, Liverpool seem to have taken a lead in the race for Marc Guehi. And a new name seems to have emerged on the Blues' centre-back wishlist.
As reported by [CaughtOffside](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2025/06/23/chelsea-interest-hincapie-hato-diomande-murillo/), one of the names on Chelsea’s centre-back shortlist is Piero Hincapie. Bayer Leverkusen appear to be looking for his €60 million release clause.
Of course, Bayer Leverkusen players have dominated the headlines this summer. Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz have both joined Liverpool in blockbuster moves. Could we see Hincapie end up at Chelsea?
Time shall tell. Chelsea do seem to be building an Ecuadorian core in their team. Moises Caicedo has been their 24/25 Player of the Season and is expected to be integral to this side for years to come. There are high hopes surrounding Kendry Paez as well, who is expected to spend this campaign out on loan at Strasbourg. Could the Blues add Hincapie to the mix?
