Liverpool FC striker Darwin Nunez has showed off a new look as he celebrated a special occasion. The number nine has sported long locks ever since he signed for the Reds from Benfica in 2022.

However, the Uruguayan has ditched his traditional look as he celebrated his 26th birthday. The forward shared a snap with his Instagram followers which showed his partner, Lorena Manas, putting the clippers through his now short hair. The LFC striker issued a message to his girlfriend as he marked the occasion.

A translation of the message said: "I love you. Happy life, my love!" Nunez was flooded with messages of support after the update from the family of his teammates.

A translation from Alisson Becker's wife, Natalia, said: "Happy birthday buddy! May God bless you all!" Alexis Mac Allister's partner, Ailen Cova, posted: "Very happy birthday! enjoy with family."

The birthday post was also liked by the Argentinian number 10 along with his fellow teammates Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz.

Nunez's new look comes amid reports his spell at Liverpool FC could soon come to an end. The forward was largely deployed from the bench during Arne Slot's maiden season as the team won the Premier League.

The striker was involved in vital moments during the road to number 20 as he scored a last minute double in a 2-0 win over Brentford in January.

As the ECHO reported earlier this month, three clubs are showing an interest in signing Nunez this summer. Napoli, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are all tracking the Uruguay international with a view to potentially submitting an offer.

Unnamed clubs from the Saudi Pro League have also been credited with an interest in signing Nunez, but it seems that move to a European club seems the most likely at this stage.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Napoli are in "direct contact" with Liverpool over signing Nunez. This update comes after Nunez is said to have given his approval of a move to the reigning Serie A champions, provided a fee can be agreed with Liverpool.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Napoli have a "good chance" of signing Nunez this summer. The report also hints that Liverpool view Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike as the player they may target if Nunez leaves the club.

The report does claim, though, that the Reds will have to battle Manchester United and Chelsea for Ekitike's signature.
