Arsenal launch €11million bid for potential Partey replacement - Arsenal News

Arsenal have launched a €11m bid for Brentford captain Christian Norgaard. Arsenal are looking to prepare for the potential departure of Thomas Partey, who is just one week away from becoming a free agent.

The Ghanaian’s contract runs out at the end of June and Arsenal remain locked in talks over an extension. No agreement has been reached so far, and with the player also in talks with Barcelona, there is a growing possibility his five-year stay at the Emirates will end this summer.

Arsenal have also seen the departure of veteran midfielder Jorginho, who joined Flamengo on a free transfer when his contract expired.

The Gunners have now identified Norgaard as the man to fill in the gap. The Denmark international has been one of Brentford’s key players since joining from Fiorentina in 2019.

David Ornstein of the Athletic has reported that the player is keen on the move and that Arsenal are currently waiting for Brentford’s response.

Arsenal chasing Norgaard

Though he is not known for goalscoring, he is fresh off his most productive campaign in front of goal scoring five Premier League goals and providing four assists.

The player’s strength lies in his ball winning ability though, making 201 interceptions since his Premier League debut in 2021. That is the most amongst any player during that time, while he ranks second in recoveries and third in tackles won.

Despite signing a two-year contract extension as recently as March, Norgaard’s future has become uncertain following the departure of manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham.

The player has been tipped to follow his former boss to Tottenham, but it is Arsenal who have launched the first move for his signature.

Norgaard would most likely play a supporting role in the Arsenal squad should he decide to make the switch.

Arsenal have already bolstered their midfield with the signing of Spain international Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, who is now expected to start in the holding midfield role should Partey leave the club.

Norgaard is expected to serve a similar role as Jorginho, who was was used mainly in rotation but started some matches as Arteta employed different tactical approaches.

Arsenal is expected to accelerate their transfer plans ahead of their July pre-season tour to Asia. They are close to completing a deal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in a £5m deal, and are locked in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon for striker Viktor Gyokeres.
