Barcelona are reportedly hoping to activate the release clause in Nico Williams’ contract at Athletic at the start of July and bring the Spain star to the Camp Nou.
Williams is believed to have told the Basque side that he wants to move to Barcelona, but it seems the club are not going to let him go without a fight.
According to Cadena SER, Athletic are going to try and block the transfer because they believe that Barcelona are still not operating within the 1:1 rule.
Joan Laporta has said that Barcelona are back at 1:1 recently, but La Liga president Javier Tebas has insisted that this is not the case at the moment.
The report states that Athletic Club are going to do all they can to keep Nico and “will not sit idly by in this matter” regarding Barca’s finances.
President Jon Uriarte and general manager Jon Berasategi are apparently going to get in touch with the authorities to try and block the move.
Athletic are said to be ready to “demand that the League and the Federation prevent the transfer from taking place” until Barca are back under the 1:1 rule.
This could be about to get messy.
