West Ham now in pole position to land €30m midfielder - Sky Sports journo

West Ham United are currently in pole position to sign Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika, according to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The Hammers are the most concrete option for the Nigerian international, and the Belgian club want around €30 million to sell the 24-year-old.

However, West Ham will face fierce competition from Everton for Onyedika, and more suitors could join them in the pursuit of the midfielder after it became clear he has been put up for sale.

The London Stadium club want to bolster their options in the middle of the park this summer as manager Graham Potter looks to hit the ground running next season, and the Brugge star fits the bill.

The defensive midfielder featured in 52 games last term across all competitions, weighing in with two goals and two assists.

Onyedika was involved in four goals and two assists in 49 games in 2023-24 and West Ham could do with such a powerful midfielder within their ranks.

He boasts long shots and an excellent passing range, and he has what it takes to impress in the Premier League given his quality.

The Hammers have signed French defender Jean-Clair Todibo permanently following his successful loan spell last term but have to make any other first-team additions so far this summer.

They finished 14th in the Premier League table last term and will need to make significant improvements to their squad in the coming weeks if they want to qualify for Europe at the end of next term.
