Ruben Amorim has received backing for his decision to axe Marcus Rashford from his plans at Manchester United.

The 27-year-old is now on the hunt for a new club after being frozen out by the Portuguese boss merely weeks into his Old Trafford tenure which started in November.

Rashford found himself loaned to Aston Villa in January, giving the Midlands outfit a chance to snap him up for good at a price of £40million. However, Villa is unlikely to take up the option, leaving Rashford in a tricky spot with three years to run on his United deal.

Last week, Rashford issued a plea to Barcelona to come and get him, but it's still unclear whether a buyer will be found. According to former Villa and Liverpool striker Dean Saunders, Rashford has no one to blame but himself for his current situation rather than Amorim.

Saunders had some questions about Rashford's attitude, suggesting that he was unwilling to adapt his style to fit the team's needs. On an appearance on talkSPORT, Saunders even claimed he would have clashed with Rashford if he'd managed him.

"When you get to a top team, you play where the manager asks you to play, and you've got to be selfless," Saunders said. "They've had so many players at Man United who just play when they feel like playing.

"I mean, Rashford, for example, how can you not play up the middle? How can you say, 'I don't want to play up front'?

"I'd fall out with him if I was managing him, because I'd rather have a seven-out-of-ten player everywhere, giving me what they've got, than just showing flashes."

As it stands, Rashford's dream of joining Barcelona appears to be fading fast, with the Catalan giants reportedly closing in on deals for Nico Williams and Roony Bardghji.

Leaving little room for the Englishman, reports the Mirror.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are rumoured to be keen on taking Rashford on loan, but with Manchester United pushing for a permanent transfer, it remains uncertain whether they would sanction another temporary move.
