UConn’s Liam McNeeley hopes to hear his name called at the NBA Draft

BROOKLYN, NY (WFSB) - He only spent a year with the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team, but he thinks he’s ready for the big leagues.

Liam McNeeley hopes to see his name on the NBA Draft board in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.

ESPN’s most recent mock draft had the 6’7″ Texas native potentially heading to the Miami Heat at the 20th pick, by way of the Golden State Warriors’ pick.

However, the sports network said the Brooklyn Nets and Utah Jazz also have interest.

Yahoo! Sports, meanwhile, also pointed out that the Boston Celtics, who pick 28th, may look to take him if he’s still available at that point.

ESPN reported that McNeeley drew positive feedback from his workout circuit with other NBA teams.

McNeeley was the 2025 Big East Freshman of the Year and earned All-Conference Third Team honors.

He averaged 14.5 points and shot just over 38 percent from the field in 27 games as a forward for UConn. He also averaged 6 rebounds per game.

The draft was scheduled to start at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
