Alejandro Garnacho has been told he is a Manchester United misfit who has to be sold this summer.

United have told the Argentine sulk to find a new club - because boss Ruben Amorim is not interested in keeping him. The pair fell out after Amorim refused to pick him in his team for the Europa League final against Tottenham, seeing the 20-year-old hit out at his manager to the press.

Garnacho's controversial behaviour has made United even more determined to sell him and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is even willing to lower his asking price to get rid of the Argentine winger.

United have not commented on Garnacho's decision to wear an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name on the back, while on a summer break in Ibiza. But in private, club chiefs are seething with the stunt - and will redouble their efforts to offload the winger.

United value Garnacho at £60m, but accept his fall-out with Ruben Amorim and the club's desperation to get shut of him mean the price will not be met.

The Red Devils might have to accept a bid of around £45m instead, but would be willing to do this to strike a deal for Garnacho. And these funds would count as pure profit against the backdrop of profit and sustainability rules, given his status as an academy graduate, having joined the club's youth system from Atletico Madrid in 2020 as a teenager.

The same applies to Rashford, who is also looking to find a new club this summer. United want in the region of £40m for the England forward, but his £300,000-a-week wages are putting off would-be suitors.

Rashford spent the second half of last season on-loan at Aston Villa - and could be forced to spend next season on a similar deal with another club.

Former United goalkeeper Tim Howard told CasinoBeats that it would make good business sense to sell Garnacho, who doesn't fit into Amorim's system, he said: "We look at PSR and net gain, and unfortunately, that’s a big thing now.

"Those types of players, the young players, give you more net gain when you sell them, and that has to come into the equation. I know years ago that would sound stupid, but that's actually the business of things these days.”

"He's young and he’s valuable, if they can receive a good return for him, you then allow Ruben Amorim more room to go find the player that he wants to hand-pick.

"On one hand, going back a few years, everybody would think that it was crazy to let a really good, talented player go. But in this landscape, I don’t think so.

"I don’t think he’s (Garnacho) had enough time under Ruben Amorim to kind of see that he is or isn’t one of his players.

"Or if he is or isn’t adapting to the style that Amorim plays with number nine and then the two 10’s underneath, tucked in tight. He doesn’t really seem to be the type of player to fill that role."

United are looking to ship out Garnacho, along with fellow wingers Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho this summer to accommodate Amorim's overhaul.

Matheus Cunha is the only player through the door so far this window, joining from Wolves in a £62.5million. But United hope to add Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo to the squad before pre-season in a fee worth a similar amount.
