£45m player is surely finished at Arsenal after what David Ornstein has just reported – opinion

Arsenal are starting to wake up in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, after a few weeks of watching rivals such as Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea making early additions, Arsenal are starting to make their moves.

Martin Zubimendi looks set to join the club, Kepa Arrizabalaga is on Arsenal’s radar, while another midfield addition could also be on the cards.

Arsenal have made a bid for Christian Norgaard in recent hours.

David Ornstein reports that Arsenal have bid for Norgaard, while according to Fabrizio Romano, Norgaard wants to join Arsenal.

This is an interesting situation, and it points towards the idea that one key player may be set to leave Arsenal in the coming days.

Thomas Partey is surely set to leave Arsenal

Thomas Partey’s contract situation has been an ongoing saga for months at this point.

At one point, it looked like Partey was set for a new deal. However, more recently, those talks have stalled.

Partey’s contract is up at the end of the month, and the fact that Arsenal have made their move for Norgaard would suggest that the Ghanaian is indeed leaving the Emirates.

Partey has flirted with a move to Saudi Arabia in recent times, and that may well be the route the midfielder now takes as it would appear he doesn’t have any future in north London.

Arsenal’s midfield depth analysed

Of course, nothing has been confirmed on the Partey front as of yet, but it doesn’t take that much critical thinking to deduce what this Norgaard bid could mean.

Looking at Arsenal’s midfield options, it’s fair to say that there simply wouldn’t be room for Partey, and his huge wages, in this team if Norgaard was to sign.

Arsenal’s potential midfield depth

Myles Lewis-Skelly

Arsenal have largely operated with four deep midfield players in recent times and with Martin Zubimendi coming in after the departure of Jorginho, it’s fair to suggest that Norgaard may be arriving as a Partey replacement.

Factor in that Myles Lewis-Skelly could also change position to add even more depth, and it begins to look incredibly likely that Partey is leaving Arsenal.

The £45m man was a fantastic servant for the Gunners for a long time, but it now appears as though the midfielder is at the end of the road at the Emirates.
