"He told me, Yes, I’m coming": Insider reveals £140k/week star told him he's leaving Liverpool

Liverpool appear to be very close to selling Darwin Nunez to Napoli amid exciting whispers about who he replace them.

The former Benfica star has been an entertaining player to watch but he isn’t good enough for the ambitions that Liverpool have but a move to Italy and Napoli would suit him very well.

This week, a report from La Gazzetta Dello Sport suggested that Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has been bombarding Liverpool with calls to reduce the asking price for Nunez.

Napoli clearly seem to want the 25-year-old badly and not only will Liverpool actually make some money if they sell him for their reported £43m asking price, they will also be able to unburden themselves from his £140,000 per week wages.

According to football business reporter Dave Powell, Darwin Nunez’s book value sits at £21.2m.

A player’s book value represents how much a club that bought him still owes on their books in outstanding transfer fees to the selling club.

So for Liverpool, they still owe Benfica £21.2m.

What this means is that Liverpool will profit from every penny above that mark which given the club’s asking price is £43m, they could recoup £21.8m from his sale to Napoli.

Darwin Nunez has reportedly said he will be joining Napoli this summer

Now, Walter Gargano, says he knows that Nunez will be joining Napoli imminently.

Speaking to Italian outlet RadioGoal24 via Liverpool Offside, the former Ustar for the Uruguayan national team claims that Darwin Nunez revealed to him that he is heading to Napoli.

“The heat of the Neapolitans would do him a lot of good,” he said.

“I spoke to him about a week ago, and I hope he gets to Naples. I told him, Go to Naples!’ He told me, Yes, I’m coming to Naples, I’m waiting to close with Napoli.”

Liverpool transfers should speed up once this deal is done

Once Liverpool have sold Nunez, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Reds become more active in their hunt for a top striker to replace him although the dream of signing Alexander Isak will – in my book – remain a dream until I see concrete reports that they are making a move and not just capable of doing so.

That said, Liverpool could and probably should keep Luis Diaz and wait on an elite striker until the conditions are right.

Spending another £150m to £200m on Isak doesn’t sound like good business regardless of whether he’s in the top bracket of centre-forwards worldwide.

I won’t moan about if we do sign him though!
