UEFA will want to “set an example” with a punishment after Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott was caught in a dangerous situation, according to Keith Hackett.
The 22-year-old playmaker has been enjoying himself away from Anfield this summer, playing a key role in Lee Carsley‘s England Under-21s side at Euro U21 in Slovakia over the last few weeks.
He scored the opening goal in the Three Lions’ 3-1 win over Czechia, also doubling their lead in a thrilling 3-1 quarter-final victory against Spain on Saturday, 21 June.
Speaking to Liverpool News 247 (14 June), Ian Darke said now is the time for the former Fulham man to find a new club due to a lack of playing time under Arne Slot during the 2024/25 season.
Football Insider understands Wolves are the latest team to join the race for Elliott, with the Midlands club confident of striking a deal ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former referee said: “When I was at the PGMOL, I drew a very clear line about this. If any player makes contact with the face or neck upwards on an opponent should be issued with an immediate red card.
“On occasion, I’ve seen that happen go unpunished in the Premier League. Here, UEFA will be very keen to set an example. He’ll get a lengthier suspension, likely to be five games.”
