Arsenal are said to be making a move to sign a Premier League midfielder to replace a likely departee.
Arsenal are now said to be chasing a deal for a defensive midfielder as they look to replace Thomas Partey, but Tottenham should consider hijacking their deal. The Gunners are in the midst of an important summer as they look to build a squad able to properly compete for the Premier League title after coming up short last term.
And with Thomas Partey also looking like departing amid failing talks over a new contract, it looks as though Arsenal will move to snap up a replacement, and from within the Premier League. Brentford star Christian Norgaard is now being linked, and Fabrizio Romano has posted on X: “Arsenal submitted proposal worth €11m package for Christian Nørgaard, as @MadsWehlast reports. Negotiations ongoing as Brentford want more and talks continue. Nørgaard wants to join Arsenal.”
Interestingly, Norgaard only penned a new contract with Brentford in 2025, and at the time, then Bees boss and now Tottenham boss Thomas Frank said of the midfielder: “This new contract was a no-brainer for us and Christian. Christian has been an integral part of the fantastic journey we have been on these past six years. He is our club captain and one of our most important players.
“His ability to sense danger and make interceptions is at an extraordinarily high level, as is his ability to play forward on the first or second touch. And he has picked up his goal threat this season! The first time I coached Christian, he was a No.10; now he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League. I’m very happy. Hopefully we can continue to be successful together with Christian leading the team.”
With Frank clearly a fan, Tottenham should be seriously considering hijacking this deal. Spurs need more depth in the holding midfield roles, and Frank could sign a player he already knows he can get the best out of, and for an affordable fee, too.
What has Norgaard said?
Norgaard last spoke about Brentford when he penned his new contract in March. He said at the time: “There are a lot of factors that played their part in me signing a new deal. Most importantly, it’s a place I feel very safe in. It’s an environment I enjoy being in and my family loves living in west London. If they are not happy then I will not be able to perform. My wife is very supportive. She’s fantastic with our children as well but she also made it pretty clear that her first priority is that she’d be very happy if we stayed. I’m sure that also played a part in my way of thinking."
Nørgaard added: "I enjoy the responsibility and the role I have at the club. I’ve been at other clubs where I haven’t played as much so just playing football is something you should always appreciate. Our whole coaching staff is incredible to work with and again, is something that played its part in me extending. It’s special to keep being a part of something that you’ve been a part of for a long time.”
