Championship club officially announce 'brilliant' Everton target will leave as a free agent

Everton are on the search for major squad additions this summer with massive changes taking place on Merseyside.

David Moyes was able to work his magic after landing back at Finch Farm in January after keeping the Toffees afloat in the Premier League.

The performances under the 62-year-old will have provided Everton fans with a lot of optimism for what could come under the Friedkins.

Moyes wanted two key signings back in January, through a new full-back and winger, but he has been made to wait until the summer.

Everton played it sensibly in January by only signing Carlos Alcaraz on a short-term loan basis.

Now the summer window is open, Everton are actively looking to strengthen their options at full-back, and one target is now set to become a free agent.

Everton target Kyle Walker-Peters will become a free agent

Among a number of other targets, Everton are eyeing a move for Kyle Walker-Peters, with his Southampton future up in the air.

But there has now been a huge update to emerge from the south coast surrounding the future of the full-back.

The announcement was short and sweet, with Southampton very simply saying:

‘Bringing to an end a five-and-a-half year stay. Thank you to Kyle Walker-Peters, who will leave the club at the end of his contract.’

It is believed Walker-Peters is keen to return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer as they look to add squad-trained players to their squad for their Champions League campaign.

It is unlikely Walker-Peters would return to north London and be anything more than a squad player, which may not be the case on Merseyside.

Everton could eye Walker-Peters as Kenny Tete alternative

There has been a major twist in Everton’s pursuit of a new full-back this summer.

Fulham have offered Kenny Tete a new contract just as he looked set to join Everton as a free agent.

This could completely change Everton’s plans to add a new right-back in over the coming weeks.

Walker-Peters is an option that could make a lot of sense for the Toffees, as he is capable of playing on both sides of the pitch.

As well as a new right-back, Moyes wants a new left-back to provide Vitaliy Mykolenko some support and competition.

Walker-Peters could prove a really smart addition.
