Romano Confirms That Liverpool Have £51M Agreement In Place But There's A Catch

**Liverpool won’t be able to re-sign Jarell Quansah for at least two years, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.**

While the Reds have agreed a buyback option with Bayer Leverkusen, Romano made it clear that it can only be activated in the summer of 2027:

“The buy-back clause for Jarell Quansah deal, exclusively revealed last week will be worth over €60m (£51m).”

“It won’t be available in 2026, only from 2027 as agreed between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen. The initial fee will be £30m plus £5m add-ons.”

Liverpool will believe they have secured a great deal

While selling a homegrown player isn’t necessarily ideal, the Reds have managed to raise up to £35m for a defender who wasn’t guaranteed to start games.

Quansah struggled with his confidence after being substituted by head coach Arne Slot at halftime during the season opener against Ipswich Town last season.

His form didn’t fully recover but, if he does develop his game sufficiently during his time in Germany, the Reds have the option to bring him back to Anfield in a couple of years.

A replacement for Quansah is being explored

-------------------------------------------

Slot currently has only three senior centre-halves in Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez. There are [**doubts over the future of Konate**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-transfer-news-ibrahima-konate-2/), with the defender’s contract set to expire at the end of next season, while Gomez’s injury record means he cannot be relied upon.

You would think that adding another centre-back to the squad before the season begins is vital. At the moment, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is the primary candidate, although there is a good chance that Liverpool will switch targets if they feel that the Eagles’ asking price is too high.
