Napoli make decision on Alejandro Garnacho bid

Manchester United’s transfer window activity remains under close scrutiny, as Ruben Amorim looks to reshape the squad ahead of a crucial 2025/26 campaign.

The Portuguese manager has already begun reviewing potential exits and arrivals, with several first-team regulars facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford.

One name that continues to divide opinion is Alejandro Garnacho — a talented but inconsistent figure who remains a subject of debate among fans and pundits alike.

While the Argentine winger is expected to stay for now, his name has frequently appeared in transfer speculation, particularly during the past January window.

And now, new details have emerged about just how close he came to leaving.

Arena Napoli have confirmed that Napoli were very interested in signing Alejandro Garnacho in January, with manager Antonio Conte personally approving the move.

Alejandro Garnacho was reportedly open to the switch, attracted by the idea of working with the fiery Italian coach and competing in Serie A for the Scudetto.

Napoli were looking to replace star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who had just been sold to Paris Saint-Germain, and identified the Manchester United youngster as an ideal fit.

However, despite mutual interest, the move never materialised — and now the reason has become clear.

Napoli backed out after deeming Manchester United’s demands for Garnacho excessive, with the Premier League side reportedly asking for a fee well in excess of €60 million.

Given Garnacho’s inconsistent performances and limited end product last season, Napoli ultimately felt the valuation didn’t match the risk.

In hindsight, Napoli’s decision appears vindicated.

Garnacho’s form declined in the latter stages of the campaign, and his current market value is said to be significantly lower than it was during the winter window.

While United opted to keep hold of him in January, the door remains slightly ajar this summer — particularly if Amorim sees other wide players better suited to his system.

Napoli, meanwhile, have since turned their attention to other wing options, having cooled their interest in the 20-year-old.

What’s clear now is that Garnacho’s path could have taken a dramatic turn — but United’s demands ensured he stayed put.
