Manchester United’s summer business is starting to take shape, with a fresh sense of direction under Ruben Amorim already becoming clear.
After a disappointing league campaign that saw the Red Devils score just 44 goals, the focus has initially been on strengthening the attack.
Matheus Cunha has already signed, while a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is understood to agreed.

But while bolstering the forward line was essential, attention is now shifting to midfield — a department also in need of athleticism, energy and consistency.
And a somewhat new name has emerged on the radar, fresh from impressing on the global stage.
According to multiple reports and confirmed by journalist Ben Jacobs via The United Stand, Manchester United have scouted Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios — a player described as tailor-made for Amorim’s high-intensity philosophy.
Richard Rios has been one of the standout performers at the Club World Cup and previously shone at last summer’s Copa America, helping boost his reputation across Europe.
The 25-year-old Colombian is a pressing machine and, according to FIFA’s official data, recorded more presses (85) and sprints (172) than any of his Palmeiras teammates during the Club World Cup group stage.

Rios’ ability to press, pass, tackle, dribble and cover ground makes him an ideal fit for the “mad dogs” style Amorim wants in his midfield.
Although United have yet to make a formal approach, Jacobs confirmed that scouts have been monitoring the midfielder for some time.
However, Palmeiras are still competing in the tournament, and Rios has asked that all transfer discussions be delayed until after his current commitments are complete.
United aren’t alone in their interest — Nottingham Forest have already made contact with the player’s side, while Tottenham and PSG are also tracking the situation closely.
Crucially, Rios wouldn’t break the bank.
United explored a £17 million deal for him last summer, and even with a potential £10 million increase, the value remains excellent for a player of his quality.
Whether United act in mid-July or early August remains to be seen, but Rios is now firmly in the conversation — and could be the midfield engine Amorim has been searching for.
