Suggestion player pulled out of squad over imminent move to Chelsea–“Illness”may be not all it seems

Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens may have been pulled out of their squad for the clash with Ulsan HD at the Club World Cup as a move to Chelsea is imminent.

That’s at least according to Ruhr Nachrichten, who believe that talk of an “illness” keeping Gittens out may actually be a cover story.

They explain that Gittens is currently dominating the news cycle at Dortmund, particularly after Bayern Munich appeared to enter the poker game for him.

Chelsea have already been working for weeks to try and sign the winger and new talks, and indeed a meeting, between them and Dortmund officials was reported on Tuesday. The belief is that the Blues are nearing a deal that suits all parties.

Those rumours have now been fuelled by the fact that Gittens did not travel with Dortmund for their final game against Ulsan HD in Cincinnati. “Because he’s ill” manager Niko Kovac explained at a press conference when asked why Gittens won’t be there.

The feeling, though, is that should be taken with a pinch of salt. In fact, Ruhr Nachrichten don’t seem to believe it at all and instead seemingly feel that it’s all a cover to protect Gittens as his move to Chelsea is now imminent.
