Dolphins Get Early Worst-Case-Scenario Trade Deadline Prediction

Before the preseason has even kicked off, the Miami Dolphins are already being viewed negatively. In an article from Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, the Dolphins are predicted to be one of five teams that could be "aggressive sellers" before the 2025 NFL trade deadline.

"If Miami stumbles to another 2-6 record over the first two months of the upcoming season," Kay writes. "The idea of entering a full-blown rebuild will be appealing."

The Dolphins entering a "full-blown rebuild" would be the worst outcome from this upcoming season. Miami has the pieces necessary to compete and should be striving for a top playoff spot.

Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Devon Achane, and (hopefully) Jonnu Smith are among the best offensive personnel groups in the league. While the defense is suspect, a lot of young players and veterans still reside on the roster, even after Jalen Ramsey is eventually traded.

While Kay points out that a rebuild could be appealing, it wouldn't be so for the fans or the franchise. Blowing it up would signify the end of multiple eras. Hill would likely be gone, Tagovailoa might not last much longer, and head coach Mike McDaniel would be out the door.

Losing their veterans and wasting years of their rookies and young stars isn't the best outcome for any team. But for the Dolphins, it'd be a complete disaster. Kay predicting that the Dolphins will be "aggressive" trade deadline sellers, before the season begins, is the worst-case scenario for the Dolphins in 2025.

There's been drama during the Dolphins' offseason, with Smith requesting a contract increase or a trade being the latest bit of drama. But, despite the drama, the Dolphins should still be in contention for a playoff spot.

Miami isn't a complete roster, but they have the pieces to compete with top teams in the league when healthy. Predicting the team to blow it up, well before the season begins, is a questionable prediction.

While the Dolphins could be sellers, that'd directly lead to the team completely falling apart. Selling at the deadline would be the last thing the Dolphins would want to do, as it'd be not just the end of an era, but the beginning of another long rebuild after years of mediocrity.
