Martinelli-Bayern links played down but exit not impossible

Rumours linking Gabriel Martinelli with a summer departure have been played down, though the winger does appear to be available in the right circumstances.

Earlier this week, reports broke that Bayern Munich were in talks with Gabriel Martinelli’s entourage over a potential summer transfer.

Yet James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that despite the rumours, there haven’t been any significant developments on Martinelli’s future. Andrea Berta has informed the winger that they want him to stay, and he’s happy at Arsenal.

McNicholas adds that if an attractive buyer comes in at an appropriate price, a summer departure isn’t impossible. But as it stands, such a bid doesn’t appear to be on the horizon.

Gary Jacob had reported for The Times that Bayern had added Martinelli to their list of potential left-wing options as Nico Williams – their first choice – looks likely to join Barcelona.

But Jacob added that Martinelli wasn’t the only name on the list, with Bayern also considering Bradley Barcola, Rafael Leao, and Eberechi Eze.

Bild journalist Christian Falk then reported that Bayern are discussing Martinelli’s transfer, making contact with the player’s camp. Again, Falk suggested Bayern have other options like Luis Diaz of Liverpool.

Arsenal don’t seem desperate to sell Martinelli, but for the first time in a while it seems like a genuine possibility. If Bayern made a serious offer and the Gunners felt first-choice winger target Rodrygo might be available, a deal could be possible.

That possibility is still a long way off, with none of the clubs in the mix actually submitting any bids so far.
